Boulder County, Colo. - On Dec. 21, 2016, the
League of American Bicyclists (League) recognized Boulder County with a Silver
Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award, joining nearly 1,300 visionary
businesses from across the country.

With the announcement
of 42 new and renewing BFBs, Boulder County joins a cutting-edge group of 1,265
local businesses, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies in 49 states
and Washington, D.C., that are transforming the American workplace.

“The business
community’s investment in bicycling is playing a central role in making the
country a safer, happier, and more sustainable place to live and work,” said
Bill Nesper, League Deputy Director for Programs and Operations. “We applaud
this new round of businesses, including Boulder County, for leading the charge
in creating a bicycle-friendly America for everyone.”

Encouraging cycling to
work is consistent with Boulder County’s commitment to sustainability, leads to
financial savings for employees and Boulder County in the form of reduced
commute costs, better employee health and lower health insurance costs and a
reduced need for parking. Boulder County encourages bicycling as an easy option
for transportation for many employees by
providing amenities such as convenient bike parking at almost all offices,
shower facilities at many buildings, sponsorship of bike to work day, and
incentives such as free B-Cycle memberships for employees.

“Boulder County has a
strong commitment to encouraging cycling by the public and our employees, noted
Alex Hyde-Wright, the county’s employee transportation coordinator. “Our Silver award level gives us a baseline to
improve upon. When our employees bike, great things happen: our employees are
healthier, happier and more productive and the county saves taxpayer dollars.”

Moving forward, Boulder
County will have access to a variety of tools and technical assistance from the
League to become even more bicycle-friendly.
