Boulder County Jail inmate dies at local hospital
A 39-year-old inmate was found unresponsive overnight and later died at a local hospital
Boulder, Colo. - On Sunday, August 13, at 11:55 p.m., AMR ambulance and the Boulder Fire Department were called to the Boulder County Jail for a 39-year-old male not breathing. Deputies at the jail had discovered the inmate, who had been housed alone, in his cell during a welfare check. Immediately after finding the man unresponsive and not breathing, deputies and nurses who work at the jail attempted to revive him, including the administration of CPR. The man was subsequently transported to the hospital where he died several hours later. The man was being held at the jail on outstanding felony warrants for eluding and theft.
Although the investigation continues, there is no indication that the death is suspicious or criminal in nature, and it appears the man had intended to harm himself. Next-of-kin is still being notified so the identify of the man is not being released at this time.
The Boulder County Coroner's Office will make formal identification of the man and notify his next-of-kin. The Coroner's Office will also determine the cause and manner of his death. No additional information is available for release at this time due to the on-going investigation.
The case number associated with this investigation is 17-4743.
