(Boulder County, Colo.) -- After 36 years of public service to Boulder County, including nine
years as the Boulder County Assessor, Jerry Roberts has informed the Board of
County Commissioners of his decision to retire from (and effectively resign)
the position of County Assessor on Jan. 25, 2017. The County Assessor is an
elected office, and Roberts’ current term runs through 2018.

Colorado law grants power to the Board of County Commissioners to
appoint a successor in the event of a vacancy in a county elected office until
an election can be held. As such, the Boulder County Commissioners are
soliciting letters of interest from qualified individuals for the position of
Boulder County Assessor.

“Serving as County Assessor is a tireless job, and through all the
years we’ve worked together, Jerry has always conducted his work and led his
office in the most professional, fair, and honest manner,” said County
Commissioner Cindy Domenico. “Finding his replacement will be a difficult
assignment, and as we solicit interest in filling the role, we will be looking
for someone with extensive experience with the duties of an Assessor as well as
a similar, proven dedication to public service and professionalism.”

The Assessor’s Office determines an estimated market value for all
real and business personal property in the county every two years. For the next
reappraisal period, which takes place in 2017, the Boulder County Assessor will
be responsible for valuing more than 120,000 properties worth nearly $50
billion in market value. To perform this challenging task, the office of more
than 45 skilled professionals uses tools such as geographic information systems
(GIS) and mass appraisal techniques to perform appraisal analysis. (For details

Qualifications/How to Submit a Letter of Interest

The County Commissioners are seeking
highly qualified individuals with extensive mass appraisal property valuation
and assessment management experience in the state of Colorado, including a
minimum of six years assessment administration and supervisory experience, with
course certification from the State of Colorado Division of Property Tax.
Qualified applicants must also have significant knowledge of Colorado Revised
Statutes pertaining to the office of Assessor.

As with any vacancy to public office in
Boulder County, qualified applicants must also possess the following minimum qualifications:

• High level personnel and budget management experience
• Public sector experience, including a demonstrated
  commitment to providing the best in public service
• Strong professional credentials in key areas of expertise of the office
• Proven skills in using innovative thinking and
  technology to improve office efficiency and service to the public
• A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a
  multifaceted organization
• Boulder County residency
  for a period of at least one year prior to appointment

necessary to fill the position of Assessor.
