Caregiver Initiatives 2016
Boulder County is home to thousands of family caregivers who provide care for older relatives, partners, friends and loved ones. Our Caregiver Initiative programs include trainings, resources and events in support of our local caregivers throughout the year. This program exists with generous support from local sponsors and individual donors. Consider becoming a donor or sponsor for our CareConnections bi-monthly newsletter, or our annual Caregiving Symposium.
Various levels of sponsorship and support are available. For more information, contact Emily Cooper, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-678-6116.

Web-Based Project Visibility Launches
Our Project Visibility team is pleased to announce the launch of a new web-based training designed for direct care providers who work at Long Term Care Homes and Home Health Agencies. It is free and available 24/7 for providers and staff to learn how to provide more culturally responsive care for the often invisible older lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender population.
Click here to see a short trailer for the training and to access the course.

Hellos and Goodbyes
Ashley Suermann recently joined our staff as the new Long Term Care Ombudsman on the Elder Rights Team. She comes to us with her Masters in Social Work from University of Denver, and experience with the Alzheimer's Association, and A Little Help. We are thrilled to welcome Ashley to the Ombudsman team!
Eden Mayne recently left the AAA after serving as Community Living Program manager since 2007. During that time, Eden undertook many projects, including building the Aging and Disabilities Resources for Colorado (ADRC) with community partners in Boulder County. Eden is a leader in the Colorado aging network and was also a spokesperson for ADRCs across the state. We wish her well in her new role as the manager of Senior Services for City of Boulder!
Happy New Year - From our Family to Yours!
With many programs and events in the works, such as a presentation on senior health with the Colorado Health Institute, a new Diabetes Prevention Program, a revamped Age Well Conference (formerly Create Our Future Together), new programs and services for Spanish speakers, and much more, we are excited for 2016! Be sure to tune into our Facebook page and this newsletter for updates along the way.
Training for Family Caregivers
Are you the primary caregiver for a parent or other family member? Starting in February, we will be offering a training program for family caregivers of older adults to teach self-care skills to utilize while providing care for loved ones. The course is open to Boulder County residents providing local or long-distance care for a relative, partner or friend who is 60 or older, or of any age if the person has dementia.
Pre-registration is required; please call 303-678-6116 or email: InfoCaregiver@bouldercounty.org
What's on Your Plate?
Today, about half of all American adults—117 million people—have one or more preventable, chronic diseases, many of which are related to poor quality eating patterns and physical inactivity.
