95th Street daytime, weekday closure –Valmont to Lookout Road – starts June 26

Resurfacing and intersection improvement project; Travel restrictions
will vary during work

Boulder County, Colo. - In
order to safely accommodate a roadway resurfacing and intersections improvement
project, Boulder County Transportation will need to fully close 95
th
Street to through traffic between Valmont and Lookout roads starting at 8 a.m.
on Monday, June 26. The road closure will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.,
Monday through Friday, during this phase of the project. North- and south-bound
traffic on 95
th Street will instead need to use 75th
Street or Highway 287 to detour around the closure.

As construction progresses, the closure
area will be expanded.
It is anticipated that in August the road will be
closed to through traffic between the Lafayette city limits on the south and
Lookout Road on the north. This closure will also be in effect between 8 a.m.
and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. During closure hours, traffic will need
to use Lookout Road and Arapahoe Road to move east-west and 75th
Street or Highway 287 to move north-south.

Local
residents will be able to access their home during construction, but should use
the road closest to their neighborhood’s access point.

The
project is scheduled to last through October, weather permitting. Lane
reductions and closures may not be necessary throughout the entire project.
Boulder County and the contractor will do their best to reopen the road as soon
as possible.

Intersection Improvement Project
Scope/Improvements
Valmont
and Isabelle roads intersect 95th Street at an “offset” intersection
that requires eastbound and westbound vehicles to share the road with
north-south traffic on 95th Street for a short stretch of the road.
Currently, neither intersection is signalized, which leads to significant
peak-hour congestion and accident rates that are among the highest of any
intersection in the county. To help alleviate congestion and make the road
safer for motorists and cyclist, the project will include:

  • Widening of 95th
Street to create a longer center turn lane for both intersections while
maintaining the standard paved shoulder width along a southbound right-turn
lane onto Valmont from 95th Street.
  • Widening of
Isabelle Road to allow for an additional turn lane onto 95th Street
  • Geometric
improvements on Valmont Road at the intersection with 95th to
    improve safety and drainage
