A Multimedia Conversation With Our Community

Everybody Has a Story

In Boulder County, there are many stories of individuals and families living on the margins. They are stories of struggle and chance, bad luck and tough choices, but also of hope and partnership, risk and strength. They are stories we can all learn from. That’s why we’re setting out to tell these stories through the (In)visible Boulder County project, and to ignite a conversation with our community about action and opportunity. By capturing individual stories through powerful portraiture and testimonial we will start a conversation about stigma, stereotype, and disparity in our community.

Background

The (In)visible Boulder County project was created by One K Creative as part of the Sonder Collection, in partnership with the Boulder County Community Services Department, and sponsored by the Boulder County Commissioners and other community partners. The project features the county’s often marginalized and underserved populations — the invisible members of our communities, and includes images and comments from the immigrant, working poor, transgender, homeless, and youth-in-crisis communities.

The project was produced in conjunction with the Boulder County Community Action Programs, Boulder County Head Start, Attention Homes, Emergency Family Assistance Association, Intercambio, Out Boulder County, and the Sister Carmen Community Center.

Community Conversation and KGNU Radio Stories

The (In)visible Boulder County documentary was screened, and the portraits were on display at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder. A community panel discussion followed, featuring people featured in the project and representatives of the agencies that made the project possible. KGNU has an audio recording of the discussion available to listen to online.

Regular weekly stories from the collection were also broadcast on Boulder’s community radio station, KGNU. Check out some of the archived stories that have aired.
