Compost Workshops are back. Resource Conservation Division will be offering one virtual and one in person this summer season.
The virtual workshop will be Monday, July 18th from 6-8pm via Zoom. Register Here: boco.org/CompostWorkskop
The in-person workshop will take place Saturday, July 23rd from 10am-noon at the Boulder County Recycling Center’s Education Room.
These free workshops are welcome to anyone interested in learning how to successfully start and manage a backyard compost pile in Colorado. Backyard composting is an effective way to reduce household carbon footprints and provide quality compost for use in gardens. Learn how to start and maintain a highly efficient backyard compost system by knowing what to feed your compost pile, appropriate bins and methods for our geographical region, tips and troubleshooting, and more. These workshops are hosted by the Boulder County Resource Conservation Division and taught by Melanie Nehls Burow, a Master Composter in Colorado.
Finished compost can:
- Reduce the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides
- Suppress plant diseases and pests
- Promote higher crop yield
- Improve soil structure & water retention
- Reduce erosion
We will also have Soilsaver Compost bins for sale at cost for $65. Personal check or exact cash only. The Soilsaver Classic compost bin is a suggested bin to use as it provides an easy way to convert common yard and food waste into compost. This is a large capacity compost bin which will work great for a household of up to five people. In addition, the locking lid helps to keep pests out of the composter. The quarter-inch thick structural foam, black recycled plastic is built to last and hold the heat inside. The lid is designed to collect rainwater to keep the compost moist.
