SUMMARY:Wildfire Partners at the Louisville Grasslands Fall Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Join Louisville Open Space\, the Boulder Watershed Collective\, Grama Grass & Livestock\, the Louisville Fire Protection district\, and Wildfire Partners to take a short walk in our local grasslands and learn about some of the nuances involved in planning and managing these landscapes. We’ll start at the Davidson Mesa Trailhead\, and from there we’ll take a mellow walk (a mile or less)\, interspersed with stops to discuss what we see and how management objectives are approached on the ground. Cows will be actively grazing the landscape at Davidson Mesa during this time\, so we can see their work in action and learn about their role in supporting grassland management objectives.\nTopics will include: \nGrassland ecology: How local grasses interact with grazing\, fire\, and moisture.\nGrazing: The objectives\, methods\, and outcomes of grazing on local grasslands.\nWildfire: Grassland fire behavior and ecology\, individual preparedness\, and agency planning/response.\nHome Mitigation in Grasslands: How residents in the grassland-urban interface can participate in local programs to support community risk reduction. \nWhen: Wednesday\, September 25\, 2024 from 5 – 6:30p.m.\nWhere: Davidson Mesa Trailhead\, South 80th Street Boulder\, CO 80303 \n

DESCRIPTION:September is Disaster Preparedness Month! Louisville Fire and city staff host Wildfire Partners to learn about wildfire mitigation and emergency preparedness for wildfire. Wildfire Partners will give a short presentation about home hardening. The City & Fire district will also talk about emergency preparedness measures every resident could take.
