SepticSmart: Cost of Installation or Repair

Costs for Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems

The OWTS Professionals are private entities and costs vary.

Boulder County has some of the most diverse soil types and groundwater levels in the state of Colorado. It is therefore not possible to estimate cost until the site has been evaluated and the soils and test pits have been dug and examined by the OWTS professional and by BCPH.

Rocky soils, clay soils, high groundwater tables, slope of area – all of these can increase the cost of a septic system.

Septic systems, including permitting, soil analysis, design, and installation costs, can vary greatly.

Bids from Professionals

Boulder County Public Health recommends that consumers get at least 3 bids from engineers and installers.

Financial Assistance

A low-interest loan program is in place to help low to moderate-income households construct or repair onsite wastewater systems.

Please Note: This information is intended to provide a better understanding of the functions of onsite wastewater treatment and the need for proper design, installation, and maintenance. Always consult a licensed professional or public health official with questions regarding engineering, installation, and servicing of onsite wastewater systems.
