Parks & Open Space Founders' Legacy Video

The preservation of Boulder County’s open space land began as part of the ethic of conservation that started in the 1970s and flourishes today.

Public opinion surveys indicate that the public is overwhelmingly in favor of the open space program. In 2012, 80% said they approve of the program. County open space properties receive approximately 1.5 million visits each year. Thousands volunteer their time and talents to help with the management and improvement of the land.

Was it always this way? No it wasn’t, not at all. The beginning of the open space advocacy had many ups and downs between the 1970s and early 1990s including failed sales tax measures.

This video demonstrates the forethought and effort which went in to preserving the open space that we cherish today.
